Lakeview Estates POA has been paying West Beach Realty $1,300 per month for covenant letters, secretarial duties and treasury duties.  The new Board decided to do the duties themselves instead of WBR and use the savings for improvements of Lakeview Estates.

The first of many things to come is the Flag Project.  We looked all over the internet for the best prices for flags to install on light poles. The quality flag we wanted caused the price to be out of reach.

On July 2nd Lowe’s Hardware had an ad for the 30” X 48” Banner Flag Kit with wood poles. The regular price was $19.98 per flag, on sale for $14.97.  With the Military Discount we received another 10% off the price. That made the cost of each flag only $13.48. We had to buy two stainless bands to hold the flags on the light poles.  Lowes in Foley had 55 flags and Lowe’s in Daphne had 8 flags.

On Friday, July 3rd from 7:30 PM until 10:30 PM we mounted flags on light poles. On Saturday morning (July 4th) we started at 6:00 AM and finished up at 11:00 AM putting out all of the 63 flags.  That left 15 flags needed to complete all the light poles in Lakeview - part of Lakeview Drive and all of Wedgewood Drive for a total of 78 American Flags in the Lakeview Estates Development.

On July 4th I called Lowe’s in Pensacola and bought the last 15 flags that were needed.  These flags will be put up after July 4th and be ready for Labor Day!  Tried to get them all mounted but ran out of time.

The flags will be taken down on Monday and stored for the next holiday.

The brackets will remain on the light poles year around. The brackets have a 45 degree angle for the flags and 90 degree angle for other banners. I feel we can use them for other holidays and have until December to fix some nice displays for the holidays.

This is just the beginning of things to come from the Property Owners Association. We are also going to be using some of the savings to make the entrances to Lakeview Estates more pleasing.

We would like to “Thank” the following for their help on Friday and Saturday to get the July 4th Flags out.

Paul Neenan and Gayle Barnes at 9196 Clubhouse Drive worked un-wrapping the 63 American Flags, putting the flag on the poles and attaching the top clips.

They hung in there and had the flags ready by Friday afternoon.

Mort Mortimer at 9230 Clubhouse Drive helped put out brackets and flags from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Friday night.  He met me at 5:30 am Saturday morning to start putting out the remainder of the flags.  We worked together until around 8:30 am.  We started to get hot and tired.  When we got thru with County Road 12 and headed to Fairway, Moe Menk volunteered his grandson Kyle to help.

Kyle Martin (Grandson of Moe and Kathy Menk ) at 9010 Fairway Drive is staying with them for the summer.  Kyle was a great help.   He helped on Friday afternoon from 7:00 up until 10:30 pm. - swallowing many bugs around the lights Friday night.  He also found that there were several frogs at every light pole.  Kyle also helped from 8:30 am till 11:00 am on Saturday morning until we ran out of flags.

Kyle Martin is a very nice young man and had things ready when thing were needed.  When you are on a ladder it is nice to have things ready without having to ask each time.

PS.  Kyle is looking for work this summer watching and walking dogs, yard work or any other misc.  jobs you have around the house. After working with him you will not be disappointed.

Charlie “Bob” Smith was walking on Clubhouse Drive and saw the flags being put in the Golf Cart at 6:00 am Saturday morning. He came over and the next thing I knew he was putting up flags bracket and flags until  8:30 am.
