++++   Jerry, I see our neighbors are generous in donating to various projects:   I have a suggestion that may be of interest- Our Daughter Janet, has a neighbor with a 12 year old Daughter with a brain tumor. The tumor is inoperable and Ansley has started chemo.   Even though the parents have good insurance, the medical bills will be out the roof.  We have sent them a check for $250 and if any one wants to help, I am sure it would be greatly appreciated by Paige and Gregg Arnette.  Cards and prayers would be equally appreciated.

Their Address: Greggg and Paige Arnette , 1861 Woodpoint Court, Lawrenceville, GA 30043

Thanks Jim and Martha Alexander (9233 Lakeview Drive)

++++ On Thursday, July 22nd, I talked to Ralph Hellmich our Foley City Councilmen.  He informed me that the work on the Glenlakes Bike Path would be started by the end of July and finished by the end of August. He said the plans are over in engineering for the final details. Work should begin in the next week or so.    (Jerry DuBose)

++++Dear Judy,

I’m sorry you are having this problem.     There are very few dogs in the Villas, I have one myself.   The owner’s I meet on my walk and see walk by my Villas all pick up their dog’s droppings.  Unfortunately, we have a lot of people from Glen Lakes who walk their dogs thru our street.   I see no evidence of them carrying a bag to pick up the droppings for most of them I meet.   If I do see one not picking up the droppings, I tell them that they have to pick it up.    I’m sending a copy of this e-mail to the President of their Association.    Hopefully, he can include the message on their web site or in their next mailing.     Hopefully this will improve.

Carol Johnsen (The Villas)         (We have in our covenants that you must have your dog on a lease and pick up after your dog. I think the City of Foley also has something to this effect. If anyone sees a dog crapping and the owner does not pick it up, please say something to them------Jerry DuBose, Precedent Lakeview Estates POA)

++++ On June 8, we required the services of a plumber. Being we knew no one, we took a chance on the Yellow Pages. We were fortunate to call BEASLEY PLUMBING, located here in Foley. Tommy Beasley answered our call & came very promptly, within a hour of our conversation. We had a leaky kitchen faucet which had to be replaced. Mort went & purchased the faucet and Tommy installed it for a surprising low fee. We were very pleased with his service, his promptness and his manners. We highly recommend him for your plumbing needs.

++++ One more "volunteerism" comment - please remember that many of us do volunteer at our churches or other Christian organizations, some at Coastal Cleanup, some as turtle-watchers, some as neighborhood-watchers, some for the Literacy Council, and much more. One super-volunteer from Glen Lakes single-handedly cleaned up Swift Church road on Saturday (it wasn't me). So we are out there, whether we are Southern-born or just wish we were. Maybe gardening just isn't "our thing".

One of the many great things about Jerry DuBose is that he sure keeps life at Glen Lakes exciting and interesting, doesn't he!

++++ Read in Volunteering section Question" " Did any of you people from up north ever volunteer to help in associations and neighborhoods" Answer yes. As a Up North person from an area probably unknown by most "Southerners" I have been in volunteering all my life in city, neighborhood and associations. On boards. President of boards and just plain helping others. Any other questions??    Please put this in sound off in response to the idiot comment belittling us northern folks. Signed Bill Kury       Are you still fighting the Civil War.     WE won you lost. Remember.

(Idiot reply:  With 335 Lakeview Estates residents, 75 Carnoustie, 47 The Gardens and around 60 from The Villas we have around 517 residents in Glenlakes: We have 17 signed up to volunteer to help with the entranceways. Less than 4 % volunteered ......I rest my case!  Jerry DuBose, who made the comment.

++++ Do you or someone you know in the neighborhood have an I-Robot Roomba vacuum?      We're 90% sure our battery is the problem with it not working,  but before spending $60 on one that can only be ordered online, we wanted to test our Roomba with someone else's battery.

Thanks   Jan and Doug Harrall        phone:  943-4266

++++ WE USED MARK GODDARD TO PRESSURE WASH OUR DRIVEWAY, WALKS AND HOUSE- HE IS REASONABLE IN HIS PRICING AND DID A GOOD JOB. HIS PHONE NUMBER---(251)213-4382- SOME OTHERS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD HAVE USED HIM IN THE PAST AND HE WAS RECOMMENDED TO US BY FRIENDS. JIM & MARTHA ALEXANDER 9233 LAKEVIEW DRIVE

++++ There appears to be another rumor running around the development pertaining to the possible Dog Park that your board has been reviewing. The person/persons perpetuating this rumor obviously has/have not read the web-site and do not have all of the facts. It is not the intent of the Board to fund the possible Dog Park. It is the intent of the Board to find where the residents stand on establishing a dog park (to be funded by private donations) on lots owned by the POA as part of the amenities of the development .

Go to: Glenlakes Dog Park Your board has worked very hard to try to get a quorum of residents in order to pass several proposed covenant changes -- most of which have been proposed for several years but without a quorum, as our by-laws require, could not be passed or implemented. This is the reason the Board is seeking proxies. The vote relating to the dog park and fountain for Lake Muriel are OPINION POLLS ONLY and are not legally binding.     Note the sample ballots you received in your annual packet.

Please check the web-site before you listen to someone who either does not know the facts or has ignored the facts. This community has an excellent track record for financially supporting projects such as the flag pole project, the Christmas Wreath project, and the bike path (although many of the contributors will not use it). These projects were implemented with no funding from our Property Owners Association. In addition, it must be noted that these projects would not have been possible without the significant contribution of a few dedicated members who volunteered their time and effort to the benefit of our entire community - residents who worked the shovel, not just complained about it.

Jerry DuBose, President Lakeview Estates POA

++++I wanted to let you know how much we appreciate our Glenlakes web-site!!!  Our dog ran away last night and after searching for over an hour and a half, we were unable to find him.  Needless to say, our family was very sad!   First thing this morning, we checked the web-site and ......there was Buster! We called Debbie and Mike Willis, who had found him, and they were thrilled to hear from us.  When we went to get Buster, we found him in the Willis' garage with his own food and water bowls and a nice "bed" for him made from some of the Willis' clothes (a dog's paradise)!   We thank you for updating the web-site so quickly and especially thank the Willis' for taking care of our "baby" for the night! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!   Jody, Hope and Ridley Taylor ; Clubhouse Dr.

++++ I would sincerely appreciate your sending out a notice to all folks who participate in the recycling program of the city to please be more considerate of their neighbors when placing their recycle bins for collection each week. Today, I had to pick up five sheets of newspapers that had blown into my yard from a neighbors bin.    Please request folks to put something heavy on top of newspapers (i.e. a brick) so that the papers will not blow out into their neighbor's yards.         Thanks!

++++ A Tale of Two Boards :   Once upon a time there was a realty company that managed the financial and other business of the Lakeview Estates Property Owners Association. Over the course of time, we property owners allowed this company to have too much power over our money (collected as annual dues) and did not question often enough their management of it.

(Scene 2) Enter our current Board of Directors who began to question and investigate the operations of said realty company and discovered many “red flags” in the management of our money and misuse of their power.  This new Board of Directors decided they could manage our funds more ethically, efficiently, and economically. And I applaud and appreciate all the time and effort they have spent doing just that over the past year.

(Moral of the story) Property owners, please do not once again get so complacent and apathetic that we do not continue to question and investigate the management of our POA and the expenditure of our dues. Let us learn from the past and become more involved in where our money is going and what it is being used for and who is making these decisions.

While our board needs to be commended for what they have accomplished thus far, the decisions in using dues beyond the scope of the By-laws which state general maintenance, preservation, repair and up keep of Lakeview Estates is a matter that should be voted upon by owners. This is your legal right; please do not give it away.

Please attend the monthly board meetings at the clubhouse ,  read the minutes posted on the website www.glenlakesfoley.com, attend the annual meeting on May 3rd at the Foley Civic Center, and continue to question how our POA is being managed. We have good people on our board right now but we all need to be involved and informed; we need to be proactive and not reactive, as we have been in the past.

And then, we can all live happily ever after.            Kathy Menk

++++ I wanted to let all of you know about a wonderful experience I had working with Jesse Hollingsworth, owner of Turf Tech Consulting and Custom Applications.  I moved into a home that had been vacant for over three years with little or no grass and mounds and mounds of fire ants.   Jesse came over to consult with me about new turf installation, but he wanted the opportunity to bring my lawn back to life at a far lesser cost than installing new turf.    That showed me a lot of character since he would have made more profit by installing new turf, but he did what was best for the customer.    In addition to restoring my lawn, he eliminated the fire ants completely, I have not seen a single one since.     In these trying economic times, it is nice to have someone in our area who takes such pride in his work and does such an outstanding job.     Jesse's phone number is 251-747-5138 if you need any of his services.    Thanks for the opportunity to "Sound Off".......Scott and Mary Randall

++++ We had some electrical work done the other day and the electrician was so good and so very reasonable.   We thought we would like to pass his name out for other Glenlakes members who don't know who to call...like I told him, his best source of advertisement is a satisfied customer.  His name is Ken "Woody" Fortune.   Ph. 979-0745    He lives in Elberta and worked for Helmrich Electrical for 10 years and decided to go out on his own and has been for the last 6 years.   We got his name from a friend in Gulf Shores who was also very satisfied with both the work and the cost.

Thanks Bob & Carolyn Gunterman, Lakeview Dr.

++++To all of our neighbors in Glenlakes we would like to say "THANK YOU". We truly appreciate the amount of people that have came to visit us at Cahall's Deli & More. ++++ We just had a leak where the pump gauge connects to the bladder tank on our well pump.   We called a plumber friend and he told us to turn off the pump and the main valve coming from the ground water.   If you have a regular spicket on the pump system, leave that open once you have emptied the bladder tank.   Most importently, cover the whole system, pump, pipes, and bladder tank with a heavy blanket.  Also cover your brass spickets coming out of the side of your house with a heavy dish towel or something similar.   And, leave a couple of inside faucets dripping hot and cold tonight. I thought everyone should know.   Might save you some money and headaches.                                 Melanie Sickel               Carnoustie

++++ EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE YOU COME ACROSS A BUSINESS THAT IS NOT ONLY GOOD AT WHAT THEY DO BUT ARE OUTSTANDING IN SERVICE.   A GROUP OF LADIES FROM GLENLAKES FOUND THAT OUT YESTERDAY FOR LUNCH.   THE NEW CAHALL'S DELI ON Hwy 59 THAT JUST OPENED IS JUST THAT KIND OF BUSINESS.   THEY CARRY FRESH CUT STEAKS, BOARS HEAD PRODUCTS, AND OTHER PRODUCTS TO TAKE HOME AND HEAT FOR DINNER. THE BEST PART IS THE OUT OF THIS WORLD, GREAT PORTIONED, AND DELICIOUS SANDWICHES THEY MAKE.  ALL THE HELP WAS VERY PLEASANT AND THEY WERE VERY POLITE TO OUR LARGE GROUP.   I HOPE THE PEOPLE OF GLENLAKES WILL SUPPORT THIS DELI, IT'S NICE TO HAVE SUCH A QUALITY BUSINESS SO CLOSE TO OUR NEIGHBORHOOD.      (Submitted by Linda Hewitt)        Cahill’s Deli located a little south of County Rd 12 on Hwy 59 ,  8207 HWY. 59     PHONE 970-3030
